MadCoolQuest 1.0.0: turn any outing into a legend

A fantasy party quest for a real day out. Draw the realm on a map, chart the taverns, fetch bounties, fight beasts in the camera, settle every debt, and go home with a storybook, a collage and a film.

MadCoolQuest is live. Start a quest.

The idea

Most group days out run on a dozen half-answered texts: where are you, where's the bathroom, who wants a drink, what do I owe you. MadCoolQuest turns all of that into a game, and then into a keepsake.

One friend is the Quest Master. They find the venue on a map (a Renaissance faire, a festival, a concert, a city), draw the edge of the realm, and forge a quest. They can write it themselves, or give the Oracle one sentence about the day and let it write chapters, houses and quests placed at the real places inside the line. Everyone else scans a code and is in, on any phone, with nothing to install.

Chart the realm

The first chapter is a race. The first hero to stand at the tavern, the latrines or the main stage and mark it puts a carved signpost on everybody's map. The next hero along witnesses it. The fog of war lifts hex by hex as the party walks. The Wayfinder holds the signposts up in the camera, at their real bearing, with their distance: Tavern · 120 m.

Then the day fills up

  • Snapshots: the picture quests. The Bard captions each one.
  • Recon: go and write down the menu and the prices.
  • Bounties: anyone can post one ("bring me a mead"). Everyone else orders from the prices the scouts recorded, and whoever fetches it is owed exactly that.
  • Rallies: meet at a place and a time. Each one turns a chapter.
  • Beasts: they wait at their lairs. You fight them in the camera by tracing runes and timing parries. At the final muster a wyrm wakes, and everyone fights it together.

The Reckoning keeps the books. It turns orders and shared costs into the fewest payments that settle everything, with Venmo, Cash App or PayPal links if you add a handle. The game itself never touches money.

The Chronicle

When the Quest Master ends the quest, the Chronicler writes the day as an illustrated storybook, with every hero named, real prices quoted and honours handed out. The same page makes a gilded collage, a vertical film with a lute score, and a zip of every original photo. All of it is built on the phone.

Built for a field full of people

Faires and festivals are bad places for mobile data, so everything you do is saved on the phone first and sent when the signal returns. The map shows each friend's last known position and how old it is. Location sharing can be limited to your house or switched off, and it stops when the quest ends. Photos are visible only to your fellowship.

It is free. No ads, no purchases, no account.
