Booting madcoolgames.com: noise, then signal
Why the studio site exists, what it hosts on day one, and the three rules it was built under.
MadCool is a family of small companies with one thesis, borrowed from hi-fi: the unit of merit is signal-to-noise. How much of what the source intended survives the path to the listener. It has been the lens for the hi-fi work, the trading work and the social work. This site is where it becomes a game studio.
What is here today
One playable title and three honest status pages.
Speaker Setup Simulator is a Godot 4.6 web build you can play right now. Move two speakers around a 3D room and watch a deterministic acoustic score react. It has been live on madcoolstuff.net since spring; this site now serves the same build from the same storage, with its own loading shell.
Battle of Wills, WRECKNET and STARGLIDE are Unreal Engine 5.8 titles from the studio's Foundry pipeline. None is playable in a browser yet. Their pages say exactly what state each is in, including the playtest that rejected the last Battle of Wills build.
Three rules
- Nothing sells. The simulator's in-app purchase flow is simulated in the current build. Until real billing exists, no page here shows a price, an unlock, or a store badge.
- Every AI-assisted asset is disclosed. The studio pipeline logs the tools, the training-data sources and the human who approved each asset. Title pages carry that disclosure in plain language.
- The site says what the code says. Status, versions and changelogs on these pages are sourced from the titles' own repositories. If a page says "in development", there is a repository behind it that agrees.
The site is a game
The chrome is a HUD. The page tunes in as you scroll. There are six achievements; one of them needs a code that any 1980s kid can type. The sound is synthesized in the browser and off by default. All of it steps aside for prefers-reduced-motion.
Signal begins here.
